Bill and Tom Kaulitz (twins, born September 1, 1989), are popular German pop stars, best known for being in the band Tokio Hotel (formerly known as Devilish). Bill sings lead vocals and Tom plays guitar. They are identical twins, although this is difficult to tell because of their different fashion styles. They have played shows together and appeared in one movie. Since then, the brothers have continued to do music and endorsement deals together.
Early life
Born on September 1, 1989 in Leipzig, Germany to Simone and Jörg Kaulitz. Tom was born 10 minutes before his identical twin brother Bill. Because they are identical it was very hard to tell them apart at a younger age. This caused many problems and he led a band of his own. This is what started the boys in their work with music (Bill writing lyrics and Tom learning an instrument of his choice). This is the time in which they started to develop their own style and personality.
School Life
While attending school, Tom and Bill were not the popular type. It is said that before and after their fame erupted, they were called names such as ‘Fags’, 'Nutter' and 'Kidband' because of their specific looks. They stated that they were just expressing themselves. But being popular only two months after their debut, they (including Gustav and Georg) were acquited from school attendance for one year because the insults and bashing by their schoolmates got out of hand. The schoolmates seem to have a good grasp of organized psychoterror - collective, they were wearing T-Shirts with the slogan "I will kill Bill and the rest of the Fuckband too". Bill admits in the "Bravo": "Sometimes, you get frightend by what kind of people exist." Apart from the name calling, both boys seemed to do well in school, (supposedly) maintaining a one or two. During the years they were in school, they were known as pranksters, and would constantly pull pranks on their teachers. Their pranks inevitably led to their separation in the seventh grade. Although Tom and Bill (as well as Gustav and Georg) did not finish high school, they are now completing online courses for school credit.
Personal life
Bill and Tom do not have any other siblings and it is unknown when their parents Simone and Jörg Kaulitz divorced or whether they still see him or not. The boys did remain under the care of their mother and Gordon Trümper after the divorce.
Bill spends most of his time with his brother Tom playing video games and singing together. Both boys have had girlfriends in the past and their (supposed) ex-girlfriends spilled all in the popular German magazine, Popcorn . It is in this article that they tell what type of guys they are. Two girls that claimed to have had prior relationships with Tom were interviewed. The first stated that he was very unfaithful during their relationship which lead to their breakup and immediate relocation. The second one said that he was a very shy person during their relationship. When asked about the rumors of Tom having slept with twenty-five girls she responded: "He always makes himself into a big macho man, but when it gets serious, he goes back. But he is a great guy”. The picture of Tom being kissed by a german girl on the cheek which appeared everywhere was not Tom. The girl was asked and admitted that her boyfriend has the same style as Tom, and in a following pic you could tell that it was in fact, a different guy.
Style and Fashion
Though the boys grew up dressing the same, they eventually branched off into their own styles in their pre-teen years. Bill, with his androgynous looks, could have a style referring to David Bowie with his fashion consisting of selected American band (music) t-shirts, tight and/or straight legged jeans, and punk style jewelry. He is known for wearing very thick eyeliner, fingernail polish, and exotic hair from manga to a lion style mane. It is also said that Bill copied his hair style from Japanese singer Miyavi and band style from HIM. He has two tattoos which consists of his band's logo, Tokio Hotel, on the nape of his neck and a star on his lower abdomen/ hipbone. Bill also has different taste in music. His music style consists of Nena, Green Day, and Keane.
Tom grew up with a more urban root to his style. Consisting of low sagging (over-sized) jeans, oversized shirts and jerseys, American caps and hats, headbands, and dread locks (a meter in length). Tom has different taste music from Bill. When he was younger, he listened to rock bands such as Aerosmith and AC/DC. He now expanded his taste to Hiphop and listens to such artists as Samy Deluxe and Snoop Dogg
Career
Bill and Tom have been performing together since 2001. Bill has been writing vocals since the age of seven and Tom has been playing guitar since the same age. In 2001, he and Tom met Georg Listing and Gustav Schäfer. After realizing the four boys all shared similar music tastes, they formed a band together under the name Devilish and performed small shows in bars and clubs. In 2003, the group was approached by music producer Peter Hoffmann after discovering Bill on the German version of the popular American television show, Star Search, in which Bill lost in the quarter-finals. They were soon after signed with Universal Music Domestic Division in Hamburg, Germany. At this the point they changed the band's name to Tokio Hotel. Tokio Hotel became a European pop-sensation, in their own right. In 2006, the band re-released their first album Schrei as Schrei - So Laut Du Kannst (Scream – as loud as you can) after Bill's voice fully matured. Their latest studio release, Zimmer 483 (Room 483), was released February 23, 2007. Bill and Tom have also dabbled into acting, having made an uncredited appearance in a German television show, called Verrückt Nach Dir in 1994.But on the other hand Bill provided the voice to the title character in the German dub for the Luc Besson film, Arthur und die Minimoys (Arthur and the Minimoys).
